Is spotting normal during the first trimester?

Spotting in the first trimester can be normal and is usually lighter than a regular period. Spotting could look like a couple of drops of blood or a streak of blood when wiping after going to the bathroom.

Spotting can be caused by a variety of factors including implantation bleeding, vaginal checks, sexual intercourse, cervical polyps, or heavy lifting. Always check with your care provider if you notice spotting, especially during the second and third trimesters when it is less common and could be more of a cause for concern
