Is it normal that my hands and feet are swollen?

Swelling in pregnancy is normal as your body is producing up to 50% more water and blood to accommodate your growing baby. You may notice swelling in your feet, hands, face, legs and ankles. This extra fluid contributes to up to 25% of the weight a pregnant individual will gain!

Swelling usually begins around five months pregnant and is heightened during the third trimester. Sudden, new swelling in the hands or face is a reason to contact your care provider immediately as this could be a sign of preeclampsia.
