Is it normal to not be dilated at 38 weeks?

It is completely normal for your cervix to not be dilated at 38 weeks, or even 39 or 40 weeks, especially if this is your first baby.

Cervical assessments are a helpful tool for your care provider but they are not crystal balls. Many pregnant individuals show no signs of cervical changes until labour begins. Others (usually those who have had a baby before) may walk around dilated at 2-3cm.
