What are the signs and symptoms of postpartum depression?

Signs and symptoms:

Signs and symptoms of postpartum depression may include:

  • Depressive symptoms past two weeks postpartum

  • Loss of interest in activities or people that used to bring joy, this could include the baby

  • Trouble falling and staying asleep (even when the baby is asleep)

  • Sudden weight loss or weight gain

  • Excessive feelings of guilt, sadness, anxiety, worthlessness, restlessness or agitation

  • Being unable to concentrate or remember things, which is worsened by sleep deprivation

When to get help:

Speak to your doctor if you or a loved one is concerned you may be experiencing postpartum depression. You are not alone. If there is any possibility of self-harm or harm to baby, seek emergency medical help immediately.
