What can I do to prevent SIDS?

Risk factors for SIDS

Certain risk factors for SIDS include premature or low birth weight, babies whose parents smoke, babies born in a set of multiples, or babies born to mothers who are less than 20. However, most of the time the reasons and risks behind SIDS are unknown.

How to reduce the risk of SIDS?

To reduce the risk of SIDS, follow safe sleep guidelines. These include: placing baby to sleep on their back, having baby sleep on a separate, firm mattress with no blankets/pillows/stuffies/crib bumpers or anything else beyond a fitted sheet, avoiding car seats/infant swings/or baby nests for unsupervised sleep and keep the temperature in the room to 20 degrees Celsius.
